In a statement posted onto his Facebook page, University of Venda SRC President, Tsundzuka Hakamela said that the incident was caused by an EFFSC (EFF Students Command) presidential hopeful as well as another cabinet member from the same party in hopes of sabotaging the event.

“We wish to start by condemning the one isolated incident orchestrated by one presidential hopeful & a SRC Cabinet member from the opposition effsc here in campus who together tried to sabotage what became a very successful event attended by our dear students in large numbers,” he explained before revealing that the duo had also allegedly pepper sprayed other artists throughout the bash.

“The duo sprayed artists with pepper spray and equally threw a bottle at our beloved Dj Tira whilst on stage an act which we dismiss profoundly with the costs it deserves,” he continued before apologizing to the DJ.

“We wish to humbly apologise to MALUME TIRA & the entire music industry and further declare once more Univen as the home of all our artists and commit ourselves to ensuring a much safer and better reciption next time. We promise to deal decisively with all those involved as they are known to us. UNIVEN LOVES YOU MALUME Dj Tira.”
